About
Dr. Yusuf Erskine
Dr. J. Yusuf Quddus Erskine, D.O., is a physician with over 36 years of experience dedicated to a comprehensive and integrative approach to health. His work is grounded in osteopathic medicine and classical homeopathy, supported by a lifelong practice of yoga, meditation, and therapeutic movement.
His guiding intention is not simply to treat disease, but to promote optimal health across all dimensions—physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual. He works with patients to identify and release structural restrictions, imbalances, and the deeper imprints of trauma and illness, allowing the body’s natural healing processes to emerge.
Dr. Erskine’s approach emphasizes patient participation. Through hands-on osteopathic treatment, individualized therapeutic exercises, and O.N.E. Yoga classes, patients are supported in becoming active participants in their healing.
His medical path was shaped by a formative experience volunteering with Mother Teresa in India, which instilled a lifelong commitment to compassionate care and service.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Erskine offers Living Osteopathy, a mentoring program for physicians seeking personal and professional development aligned with deeper purpose and fulfillment.
He currently practices in Sebastopol, California, offering a focused, holistic practice in osteopathy, homeopathy, and movement-based healing.
Clinical Commitment
Are you looking for a proven medical professional who can help you, through focused healing intention and strong holistic skills, grounded in traditional Osteopathic medicine and Homeopathic expertise, to address the health concerns standing in your way of fully expressing your life?
I began my studies as a physician in Osteopathic medicine in 1985; followed by a three year UCSF based MD-Family Practice Residency. Then, to assist locally with the ravages of the AIDS epidemic, I completed a one year public health fellowship in HIV and AIDS care. I opened my medical practice in Sebastopol, California, in 1992.
What sets me apart from other health care providers?
- 1. My dedication to promote my patient’s health in the full-spectrum: physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual.
- 2. My consistent abilities, through the lens of osteopathy and homeopathy, to work through the embodied structural restrictions, imbalances, and imprints of trauma and illness and liberate greater health.
- 3. Promote patient empowerment and personal participation in their healing process through Therapeutic Exercise with individual ‘homework’ and group ONE YOGA classes and seminars.
The Journey for a Life Fully Lived
His path in the healing arts began in 1981 during a formative experience volunteering with Mother Teresa in Calcutta, India, where he provided comfort to the gravely ill in hospice care. This experience profoundly shaped his commitment to promoting life, health, and human dignity. Prior to this, he had already immersed himself in Hatha Yoga, karma yoga, and meditation, cultivating a deep foundation in health, consciousness, and self-inquiry.
“In 1981, Mother Teresa gave me a few clean rags, a bucket partially filled with clean water, and instructions for me to go into the hospice room (a previously abandoned Kali temple in Calcutta) and provide succor* I attempt to make good on her instructions to this day.”
“The fervent desire to promote optimal health and not just treat disease is my compelling goal.”
* succour means… (noun or verb) means help or relief given to someone who is suffering, distressed, or in need.
